Homeless to Hired

National Careers Service London Case Study

Homeless to Hired

Adam is a 39-year-old from East London who first met with the National Careers Service during a visit to the Salvation Army.

Adam needed help with job search techniques and was interested in enrolling on a course to support his search. The Adviser explained to Adam how she could help him with his CV and to find courses and job vacancies. The Adviser enrolled Adam on an Employability course and helped him to take the Skills Health Check to better understand his abilities.

Following the advice session, Adam secured employment as a Warehouse Operative, helping him to achieve his goals of securing a regular salary to enable him to pay for accommodation.

As a result of meeting with the National Careers Service, Adam commented:

“I’m so glad I contacted the National Careers Service, I am very happy that my life is improving and I can now pay rent and afford to save for a deposit.”

“I would definitely recommend the National Careers Service to others – they help improve people’s confidence and find out about opportunities and they are flexible, which really helped me when I was homeless.”
