Taylor Woodrow lands £100m power plant deal

Work on the EcoPark South contract is due to start early next year, creating many construction jobs.

It is the largest deal awarded so far on North London Waste Authority’s plan to build a £1.2bn sustainable waste management hub at Edmonton EcoPark.

Taylor Woodrow will deliver a flagship Resource Recovery Facility with capacity to manage 135,000 tonnes of recyclable material every year, as well as the first ever public Reuse and Recycling Centre at the site.

EcoPark House will open up the site to the public, providing a knowledge-sharing hub for waste prevention and recycling, and a modern home for the Edmonton Sea Cadets.

Julian Gatward, Managing Director of Taylor Woodrow said: “We are committed to sustainable construction to deliver a world-class facility, which will benefit the local community for years to come.”

EcoPark South is the first major building works in the NLHPP programme which will also see a £683m Energy Recovery Facility (ERF) built at the north of the site.

The ERF will have capacity to manage 700,000 tonnes of residual waste per annum and generate up to 78 megawatts of power.

The competitive bidding process for this major piece of infrastructure launched last month.

At the EcoPark, preparatory works started in January 2019 and they are progressing rapidly to pave the way for construction.

Buckingham Group are building a construction laydown area east of the River Lee. Galldris Construction Services are building a new access to the north of the site and preparing a new off-site transport yard, and Barhale will carry out the sewer diversion works this year.
