Domino’s Pizza, Britain’s biggest pizza delivery chain, is to create 5,000 new jobs and support more than 1,000 placements in the government’s fledgling Kickstart scheme as it gears up for its busiest time of year.

Iceland has created 3,000 new jobs to help cope with a surge in demand for online groceries since lockdown.

We’ve recently been using datasets such as Claimant Counts and Furlough data, to try and glean some insights into the state of the labour market in the UK as the crisis has unfolded throughout the year. 

Using the Standard Occupation Classification system (SOC), we can get an approximation of occupations that are generally considered to require high, medium or low skills. High skilled jobs are those in the 1-3 digit SOC category, generally requiring a graduate level education; 4-6 digit SOCs are mid-range skills, mostly requiring a Level 3-5 education; and 7-9 digit SOCs are low skilled, which is mainly Level 2 qualifications and below.

JD Wetherspoon is to cut up to half of its jobs at pubs across six UK airports.

To help shoppers and staff stay safe in store, Asda has said it's creating 1,000 new marshal roles.

German discounter Aldi is set to open 100 new stores, creating 4,000 jobs over the next 12 months. The chain said it's part of a £1.3billion two-year pledge that will also see its click & collect trial expanded across the UK.

The move will bring 100 more outlets to Britain's streets, with a further 100 to be refurbished alongside a new revamp. It comes as ministers remain in talks over a potential second-wave lockdown that could close the high street for at least a fortnight.
