The UK unemployment rate was estimated at 3.9%, this is lower than a year earlier (4.0%).The UK unemployment rate was estimated at 3.9%, this is lower than a year earlier (4.0%) . The UK employment rate was estimated at 75.9%, higher than a year earlier (75.6%).In terms of sectors, professional, scientific & technical activities saw the highest annual growth in jobs (+45,000). However, wholesale & retail saw workforce jobs fall on the previous year (-38,000), along with administrative & support services (-13,000) and other service activities (-2,000).

 

Future Trends within the IT sector

As we move into an online world, digital and tech skills are in high demand. Digital Health, Fintech, Big Data Management and Cyber Security are growing sectors. 90% of jobs are expected to need some element of digital skills by 2020 and more young people are needed to study IT-related GCSEs. More women in tech are desperately needed! Just 17% of people working in the tech sector are female.
