Employment Support to Education
National Careers Service London Case Study
Mputu is a 52-year-old from North London who met with the National Careers Service after transferring to JSA from ESA benefits.
Mputu was keen to get back in to work but was unsure of his options due to his health issues. He had previously held cleaning roles but could no longer do this type of work due to the heavy lifting. Mputu expressed an interest in security work so the Adviser suggested he enrol on CCTV courses and supported him to improve his CV, as he had not had any positive responses from Universal Jobsmatch applications.
The Adviser helped Mputu to enrol on courses in Retail Knowledge (Levels 1-3), Customer Service (Level 2), Health & Safety (Levels 1 & 2), Manual Handling (Level 2) and Fire Awareness (Level 1) which he passed and enrolled him on a CCTV course as well.
As a result of meeting with the National Careers Service, Mputu commented:
“My Adviser has been very supportive and encouraged me. I have now improved my employment chances and I have broadened my job search to include retail work.”
“Without the Service I would not have achieved the courses I have completed nor would I believe I could because of my health issues. This is a very good Service, they really help you.”
