Healthcare – where could you fit in?

Whether you’ve always wanted to work in healthcare or have never thought about it before, you will be surprised by the wide range of careers available. Whatever your qualifications, interests or skills, there is a role for you in healthcare. You could work directly with patients, in hospitals in support roles such as administration, with an ambulance service, or in the community.  

The National Health Service is the top recruiter across all boroughs in London with Professional Occupations (Health Professionals) and Elementary Occupations (Administration and Service Occupations) vacancies. Did you know that there are over 350 different careers in the NHS and nearly 39,000 nursing vacancies in the UK? The high demand for nurses keeps growing and the number of new jobs in personal services (care) is growing year on year.  

What Will the Future of Work Look Like?

In a recent article for Morrisby, Helen Janota explored the future of work looking at what jobs and careers will be in demand over the next decade and beyond. Advances in technology such as automation, digitisation and artificial intelligence (AI) are creating new and emerging jobs and careers. The numbers of people working in areas such as virtual reality, drone technology, machine learning and autonomous vehicles may not be that large at present, but we can expect to see technologies like these alter the jobs landscape over the next 10-20 years. The world of work is changing and there are a number of influences which are shaping change.

Tourism and Culture

The tourism industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the UK. Between 2014 and 2024, the tourism industry needs to recruit 1.3 million people. 319 million jobs are supported by the Travel and Tourism sector. This is 10% of global employment. By 2029, Travel & Tourism will account for 154 million jobs globally, an increase of 2.1% over the next ten years.

As a career, hospitality management is in high demand worldwide and gaining a degree or experience in this field opens up doors to many exciting hospitality career opportunities with promising salaries. From managing a restaurant or hotel to organising events and catering, there are a range of hospitality careers on offer. By 2024, the hospitality industry will need to recruit 1.3 million staff. There is a high demand for graduates to go into leadership and permanent roles. Chefs are in high demand and the sector is struggling to fill these skill shortage vacancies.
